Awesome Walls
|
Located in the Pear Mill in Stockport, this is a climbing wall that lives up to the description "Awesome". From the 23m high back wall to the large and varied bouldering area, this new wall provides a great range of routes and problems. Definitely worth a visit even if you're not into climbing walls :-)
Small cafe with upstairs balcony to watch the climbing.

Warrington
North West Face

A fine wall in the modern style. It is situated in an old church on the A49 north of the town centre, just next to a huge Tesco. All the routes are on resin panels with a good variety of bolt-on holds. The walls are arranged to make good use of the space and there is a compact dedicated bouldering section.
There is also a small gear shop and a basic cafe.

Manchester
Manchester Climbing Centre

Another wall in a church and another top class wall, with long routes, plenty of variety and a large bouldering area. It is just over a year old and can get quite busy, particularly on Tuesday eveings. Situated in Ardwick, about 2 miles South East of the centre of Manchester, just off the A57 Hyde Road. Features a cafe and a branch of Cotswold Camping.

Marple
Rope Race

It is about 2 miles south of Marple town centre, near Stockport. It is a tall wall (20m) with a wide range of surfaces, a monster overhanging section and a loving recreation of the "Peapod" at Curbar (at about the same grade, but with bolts :). There are lots of bouldering areas with resin and plywood panels filling all the available niches.
There is also a good cafe and a small gear shop hidden away up the stairs.

| Macclesfield |
This wall is in the leisure centre and consists of a small storeroom that has a few concrete blocks and panels placed around three sides. Not much to recommend it, but it is cheap and quiet.

An old style sports hall wall, with an overhanging panel section provided by Bendcrete and various concrete inserts in the wall. Getting pretty polished in places.

Another sports hall wall, but no further information at present.
